Long gone are the days when slip skirts are seen as practical undergarments. It has since evolved and in recent years, achieved cult status, thanks to Topshop’s range of slip skirts. On the face of it, the satin slip skirt just screams luxe, luxe, and luxe! Don’t let the luxurious material fool you though. It is actually a very versatile frock, given the endless styling options. Also, it’s a great transition piece, from day to night.

The satin skirt I’m wearing here is from H&M, which I bought around two years ago. This just goes to show that the satin slip skirt was on the fashion radar since some time back and it just keeps resurfacing every now and then. This style of skirt is never going out of style easily.

These figure skimming skirts are available in a plethora of colours these days. You can definitely find one in your favourite colour. I love the deep purple of this skirt. The combination of the colour purple and the satin texture just makes this skirt look even more luxurious.

Seeing as purple is such a rich colour, matching it with neutrals to let the skirt shine is a great way to style it. In my case, I went with black for both outfits. For the first look, I paired the skirt with a cropped sweatshirt from Monki. The sweatshirt and slip skirt outfit combination is a familiar one, as seen all over Instagram. It is an effortless look, perfect for a casual day out. As for the second look, I went for a metallic cami top from Factorie, which is a good match for the equally slinky skirt. And, there you have an elegant look for a night out with your girls.

Most satin slip skirts in the market comes in midi length, which might not be flattering for petite ladies. Fortunately, this particular satin skirt from H&M features an asymmetrical hemline, which flares out beautifully. More importantly, it looks good on petite frame. Another way to counter this is to opt for heels. For the day look, I went with a lace-up booties for that touch of edge. As for the night look, I went with a minimal heels from Addicts Annonymous.

One important tip that I learnt when it comes to picking out a satin skirt is to be mindful of creases. While trying them on in stores, be sure to walk around and try sitting down in them. You wouldn’t want those dreaded creases to ruin the shine and flow of the fabric.
