THESE TRENDS ARE STILL GOING STRONG IN 2019

Plaid, Neon and Snake Print

It all started with the classic check blazer back in 2017. From then on, plaid and tartan attires continued to take the sartorial scene by storm in 2018. Even up to this day, it is showing no sign of slowing down. There are endless styling options for the plaid trend nowadays, ranging from statement coats to vibrant co-ords à la Cher Horowitz from Clueless.

The key to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe is by balancing it with your personal aesthetic. While putting together this look, I was going for a ladylike and sophisticated version of this trend. Pink remains one of my favourite colours, and so, when I saw this brown/pink plaid skirt from Pieces, I knew that I had to get it. Also, the sporty details on the pocket trimmings caught my eyes. It gives off a subtle athleisure vibe.

A great way to style plaid prints is to harmonise the colour scheme of your overall outfit. Bring out the pink in the skirt by pairing it with a top in a similar shade. Seeing as neon has made a comeback recently, this ribbed velvet top in fuchsia from Monki is no doubt a brilliant pairing. Since fluorescent tones are attention-grabbing that it might seem intimidating to style, you could tone it down with neutral hues, making this brown plaid skirt a perfect match.

On the side note, velvet is one of the micro-trend that shouldn’t be missed. I love how it adds a touch luxe to the ensemble. Unfortunately, this particular colour is not available online, but as I just bought it a day ago, you might be able to find it in store.

Another trend that the fashion world can’t get enough of is the animal print, majorly leopard print and snake print. 2018 was just the beginning of this ever-growing trend and it’s not going anywhere this year. For the fashion-shy, an alternative way to jump on the animal magic bandwagon is through accessories. I went with Mango’s snake effect envelope clutch and Zalora’s snake print d’orsay flats. The reason for the hints of red is to complement the red stripe in the skirt. Besides, pink and red is one of the tried and trusted colour combination.
